Business Model

The OPDI Business Model consists of a well-balanced blend of:
Project generation
As a development company, OPDI must constantly make sure that we have a balanced project portfolio and incorporate new projects as the existing projects mature. A project might fit into out pipeline if:
  1. It can lead to a high volume optical sensor with a clear commercial potential within the IT or 'smart' Energy markets
  2. Our key technologies are essential to the success of the project

Technology development process
Once a project has been selected for development it will go through a rapid and focussed development phase until a proof-of-concept is achieved. A proof of concept means that all technology barriers are cleared and a proven manufacturing path is documented. The final goal of the development process is to achieve either a patent licensing agreement or technology sale to a commercial partner with high volume manufacturing capabilities and an established sales channels.

Product deployment process
After a contract has been signed with a commercial partner, OPDI will work closely with this partner in transferring the technology. Once the pilot-series are completed, OPDI will gradually pull out to maintain only a minor technical support role

Strategy

It is the strategy of OPDI Technologies to operate as a technology bridging company spanning the gap between public research and high volume manufacturing.

OPDI Technologies will be an innovative provider of sustainable next generation technologies and products based on the company’s know-how within optical sensor technology. We will build our projects on state-of-the art research generated by leading research institutes. OPDI will add commercial value to this research by:

  • A sharply focussed and rapid product development targeting applications in:
    -    IT based consumer products
    -    'Smart' Energy solutions
  • Establishing a solid and balanced patent portfolio
  • A continuous transfer of technologies to our high volume manufacturing partners using  exclusive licensing agreements on selected applications
  • Establishing a creative and innovative organisation which is challenging and attractive for our employees, our research partners and our strategic commercial partners

Background

OPDI Technologies A/S was established in year 2002 with the primary focus on developing an advanced laser based optical tracking technology (DfTrack sensor technology) in partnership with Research Center Risø.

This project included several cutting edge technology developments such as

  • Developing a viable high volume manufacturing path for micro polymer optics in the nanometre scale,
  • Development of advanced opto/electronic IC’s
  • Integration of all electronic and optical parts into one total integrated opto/electronic chip.

In year 2006 the company expanded its development activities into several new early stage optical technologies based on OPDIs key technology platform.

Company milestones:

2002

Establish

2003

First Dragon Fly ASIC

2004

First inject moulded micro optical polymer component

2005

License Agreement Pixart Imaging Inc. – Dragon Fly technology

2006

Extensive partnership Agreement with RISØ

2007

OPDI participates in the CINO Innovation consortium
